Turning Net Zero ambition into Engineering reality
A multidisciplinary engineering consultancy based in Scotland, delivering complex energy infrastructure across hydrogen, carbon capture, renewables and industrial decarbonisation.
Who we are
Practical engineering,
proven delivery
PTNZ (Path to Net Zero) is a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy specialising in the development and delivery of complex energy infrastructure. Backed by over 60 years of combined industry experience, we provide project development, financial modelling, engineering, project delivery and technical advisory services across the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility studies through FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operational support.
Working across hydrogen, carbon capture, renewable energy, energy storage and industrial decarbonisation, we help clients evaluate project viability, secure investment, manage technical risk and deliver robust engineering solutions that accelerate project execution and maximise long-term asset performance.
At PTNZ, we combine commercial insight with engineering excellence to transform ambitious ideas into bankable projects and resilient, high-performing infrastructure that supports the global transition to net zero.
Bridging the gap between concept and operation
To accelerate decarbonisation through the practical, rigorous integration of renewables, hydrogen and carbon capture, closing the gap between a concept on a slide and an asset in operation.
A green economy built on infrastructure that works
A net zero transition delivered by assets that stay safe, secure and productive for decades. Standardised, digitally native energy infrastructure as the norm, so every project starts from a proven blueprint.
How we work
Four principles
Safety first
Rigorous adherence to ISO/IEC standards, applied from the first HAZID through to handover, not bolted on at the end.
Customer-centric
Our customers come first. We listen, understand the real challenge and tailor practical engineering solutions to what you actually need.
Vendor agnostic
We hold no technology allegiances. Selection is made on merit against your project specification, and we can show our working.
Digital by design
Data driven from day one, so the engineering model you build in design becomes the digital twin you operate against.
A message from our Managing Director
We are living through one of the most exciting periods of change in engineering. The transition to a greener, low carbon economy, together with the convergence of Operational Technology (OT), Information Technology (IT) and digitalisation, is fundamentally changing how energy and industrial assets are designed, built and operated. At PTNZ, we see this change as an opportunity, bringing together engineering expertise, technology and digital innovation to help our customers navigate this evolving landscape and create solutions that are smarter, more sustainable and built for the future.
At the heart of PTNZ is a simple principle: our customers come first. We believe the best solutions come from listening, understanding the real challenge and working collaboratively with our customers to find the right answer. Whether supporting the energy transition, unlocking the potential of digital technologies, or solving complex engineering challenges, our aim is to deliver practical solutions that create genuine and lasting value. We want to be more than an engineering consultant; we want to be a trusted partner, working alongside our customers to turn complex challenges into opportunities.
Strategic partnerships
Common questions
Frequently asked
If your question is not here, one short conversation usually answers it faster than any page can.
Ask us directly01 At what stage should we bring PTNZ in?
As early as you can. The decisions that set a project's cost and risk are made during screening and concept selection, long before detailed design. Bringing us in at that point is where we save clients the most. That said, we pick projects up at any stage, including assets already in operation.
02 Which technologies do you work with?
Renewable energy including tidal, solar and battery storage, green and blue hydrogen and its derivatives, carbon capture and CCUS integration, and industrial decarbonisation. We are vendor agnostic, so technology selection is made on merit against your project specification rather than any commercial allegiance.
03 Do you deliver construction as well as design?
We provide construction and commissioning support through strategic partnerships, and we are CDM aware throughout. Our own teams cover project development, FEED, detailed design, procurement, commissioning and site acceptance testing, with operational support afterwards.
04 What does modular hydrogen production actually mean?
Standardised production blocks from 10MW upwards, factory built and pre-tested rather than assembled on site. The same blueprint scales from pilot to multi-MW, which lowers CAPEX, shortens deployment and simplifies permitting through pre-engineered documentation.
05 How do you handle OT cybersecurity?
It is designed in, not added later. We work to an IEC 62443 aligned reference architecture covering network segmentation, zones and conduits, secure remote access and hardening, alongside control systems and industrial network design.
06 Where do you work?
We are based in Scotland with offices in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, and we work with clients across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Bring us in early. That is where we save you the most
A short conversation is usually enough to tell whether we are the right team for your project.
